Council approves amended budget with 19-cent tax increase

NJ BRIDGETON — Bridgeton cuts budget tax increase from 36 to 19 cents. The City Council unanimously approved an amendment to the 2026 municipal budget after CFO Dianilda Torres reported that state-mandated changes and city-level reductions lowered the proposed tax increase. A public hearing is set for June 30.
The council also advanced a binding referendum question to dissolve the Bridgeton Free Public Library, citing the county library's proximity 1.3 miles away and digital resource availability; library dissolution would take effect January 1, 2027 if approved in November. Four development ordinances passed on first reading, including modifications to Eastern Pacific Development's 64-unit senior living project and the addition of 280 South Pine Street to the Scattered Sites Redevelopment Plan.
