City puts public library dissolution to ballot vote

NJ BRIDGETON — Bridgeton City Council votes unanimously to place Bridgeton Free Public Library dissolution on the November general-election ballot. Ordinance 26-11 passed 5-0 after an extended public hearing featuring two dozen residents, library staff, and educators opposing the closure and emphasizing the library's role as a community resource for vulnerable populations, educational access, and social services. City officials framed the measure as a response to budget pressures; Councilman J.
Curtis Edwards encouraged residents to seek additional funding from Senator Testa. If approved by voters, the measure would allow the city to eliminate its obligation to fund the public library system.
