Bridgeton City Council adopts 2026 budget with $0.19 tax increase

NJ BRIDGETON — Bridgeton City Council unanimously adopts the 2026 budget with $0.19 tax increase. The council voted unanimously to approve Resolution No. 118-26, authorizing the budget after a public hearing where no residents spoke. Council President Edward Bethea noted the $0.19 increase remained higher than his preference but represented improvement over the initial proposal.
The council also unanimously approved two street-closure applications: an Ionic Lodge No. 40 fundraiser July 18 on Columbus Avenue from Vine to Hampton, and a Union Baptist Temple celebration July 11-12 on Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Pine Street. Bethea urged the city to continue seeking additional savings amid limited resources.
